Overview of the Akira Kurosawa Memorial
Akira Kurosawa Memorial Museum Gallery and Theater
Facility : 800 m2 (scheduled to open in 2007)

The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Museum Gallery and Theater conveys to the younger generations the compositions and masterpieces by the distinguished Japanese film director, Akira Kurosawa. Tthe Foundation realizes one of its primary idea of HONORing Kurosawa film works. The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Museum Gallery and Theater is considered the most gmemorialh of all structures in this complex- located in the highest point in the entire facility, the Akiteru no Ma overlooks the Bay of Imari, revealing the life and works of Akira Kurosawa. Who was Akira Kurosawa? What kind of works did he produce? What were his surroundings like? How did he live? What meaning does his works have to us today? The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Museum Gallery and Theater presents two types of exhibitions: a three-dimensional display of various works in the gallery, and a two-dimensional presentation of his life on screen.
Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Institute
Facility: 1,200 m2 (scheduled to open in Spring 2009)
The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Institute realizes the Foundationfs idea to DEVELOP young talents in the field of film work. Students at this Film Institute will have the opportunity to learn important methods of film-making in a short span by actually creating their own works. The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Institute will be affiliated with a range of universities, both domestic and abroad. The gstudy abroad programh will allow students from the affiliated institutions to join the programs at the Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Institute.
Film Institute Dormitory
Facility: 1,000 m2 (scheduled to be opened in Spring 2009)
The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Institute will be equipped with its own 80-room dormitory facility for instructors, guests and students. This dormitory will be surrounded by water, the beech, greenery and the forest-- an ideal environment for creative sparks.
Akira Kurosawa Memorial Cinema Complex
Facility: 1,500 m2 (scheduled to open in 2008)
The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Cinema Complex brings the greatness of Film to the people of City of Imari. The Cinema Complex will also be the center for the Akira Kurosawa Memorial Short Film Festival, annual film festival founded in September 2004, and will also be the main stage for the upcoming Imari-Kurosawa International Film Festival. These objectives realize the Foundationfs idea to PROMOTE various works of film. The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Cinema Complex will consist of 5 movie theaters with each theater being connected by corridors with various shops and restaurants that relate to film making.
Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Art Center
Facility: 700 m2 (scheduled to open in 2010)
The Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Art Center consists of 2 sections. One section will be a vast research center for studies on history of world films, history of film makers, and other various areas such as film industry, technology, and creative expressions. Analysis from these studies will be disclosed in order to enhance the future of film industry and film art.
The second section will hold offices for various film-making support programs. The Foundation intends to provide various forms of assistance to young creators around the world. These activities in the Akira Kurosawa Memorial Film Art Center realize the Foundationfs idea to RESEARCH and SUPPORT activities of film making.
